The Ladder

Eight Tiers. One Summit.

Ranks are earned through democratic peer evaluation. Above Silver, all promotions pass through a vote by the Shadow Council. Ascend by the quality of your arguments alone.

Rank Hierarchy

The Eight Ranks

Within each tier from Silver upward, there are three divisions (1st being highest, 3rd being lowest) to reflect finer distinctions in skill.

Process

How Rankings Work

The Shadow Council

Ranks are evaluated by the Shadow Council β€” a body of Platinum+ members and nominated staff. They assess debate competency based on the marking criteria. Higher-ranked members' votes carry more weight.

Earning Your Rank

Wood is assigned automatically once you've been active enough. For promotions up to Gold, authorised staff can assign ranks autonomously (reported for review). For Platinum and above, a majority decision is required β€” and even one well-articulated objection may forestall a promotion.

Events & Exposure

Participating in server events β€” especially recorded ones β€” is a prime opportunity to showcase your skills and increase your visibility for promotion. You can also schedule debates with those of your rank or higher and ask staff to spectate.

Challenging Ranks

Members can formally challenge another's ranking. The challenged must defend against the assertion. But there's a catch β€” if you challenge someone and fail to substantiate your claims, your own rank is placed under review.

Regular Reviews

A bot regularly suggests members for review who've held one rank for a long time. The council votes on whether they should maintain, be promoted, or be demoted. An annual review at Christmas ensures higher ranks remain representative.
